I'm not from here. I grew up in San Diego, which is about as good a place to grow up as there is, and I still get back as often as I can. But Utah is where I've built my life and my companies, and the longer I've lived here the more I've noticed something about it. The gear in my garage, the shoes on my feet, the pack I take on the plane, a surprising amount of it was dreamed up and tested within an hour of my house.

That isn't an accident. The mountains are right there and the desert is a short drive south, and people who make outdoor gear want to live where they can use it every day. So they moved here or they started here, and they test their stuff on the same trails and the same snow the rest of us use on a Saturday. When I'm traveling and see a Utah brand on a stranger's back in an airport somewhere, it feels personal, like running into a neighbor.

I'm a gearhead. I run a couple of consumer brands myself, and I've spent years around founders and the companies they build. I kept waiting for someone to put every Utah brand in one place so I could see them all together, and nobody did, so this is that. Beehive Made is a directory and a map of every consumer brand I could find that started here or calls Utah home, plus one deep story every week on a brand and what they're building right now. Nothing on the site is sponsored unless it says so. Some links pay a small commission if you buy, which keeps the lights on.
